🎃 October Update:

Cecilia’s House is feeling more and more like home.

The men who have joined us are bringing their own personalities, experiences, and energy into the house, and it’s been wonderful watching this little community grow.

We still have room for a few more men, and we look forward to welcoming whoever comes next. 🏡

🌱 Why Cecilia's House is here. . .

Cecilia’s House was born from a simple belief: recovery is about more than staying sober. It’s also about rebuilding our lives, finding connection, and learning to feel comfortable in our own skin.

We wanted to create a home where men could slow down, take off the mask, and simply be themselves. A place where honesty, kindness, and mutual respect are part of everyday life.

With structure, accountability, and a supportive community, we provide an environment where men can:

• continue their recovery
• reconnect with themselves
• build a more stable, fulfilling life

The Heart Behind Cecilia's House

A Note from Cecilia

Cecilia’s Story

I’ve been through seasons where I completely lost myself — times when I didn’t recognize the person I’d become, when life felt smaller and heavier than I ever expected it to. Finding my way back wasn’t quick or pretty. It came through honesty, through breaking old patterns, and through people who didn’t give up on me when I had.

Over the years, I’ve learned that real change doesn’t come from fixing yourself — it comes from learning how to tell the truth about where you are, and being met there with compassion. That’s what began to bring me back to life.

Along the way, I’ve also walked beside people fighting their own battles — people rebuilding trust, repairing relationships, and learning how to live in a way that’s real and sustainable. I’ve seen what it takes to keep showing up when things get hard, and I’ve seen the strength that starts to grow when someone is given the space to be honest without judgment.

My heart is in this work because I know what it’s like to feel lost and unsure if you’ll ever feel whole again — and I also know what it looks like when someone finds their footing and begins to rebuild.

At Cecilia's House, I help create that kind of space: steady, human, and real. A place where people can lay down the act, be seen for who they are, and start building a life rooted in truth and self-respect.

What I’ve seen again and again is that it’s never too late to come back to yourself.

Change is real.

Growth is possible.

And no one is beyond repair.

Warmly,

Cecilia

A Note from Tom

Recovery changed the direction of my life.

Years ago, I entered a sober living home as a resident myself. It became much more than a place to stop drinking—it became the place where I began learning how to live differently.

Since then, I’ve spent nearly a decade living and working in sober living communities, walking alongside men as they rebuild their lives one day at a time. I also became licensed in chemical dependency counseling and worked inside treatment centers, experiences I’m grateful for. But I discovered that what matters most to me isn’t what happens in a therapy office.

It’s what happens over morning coffee.

Around the kitchen table.

On evening walks.

In the ordinary moments where trust slowly grows and people begin to feel safe enough to be themselves.

Over time, my understanding of recovery has changed. I no longer see it as simply staying sober. I see it as moving toward wholeness—becoming more honest, more present, more connected, and more fully alive.

That’s the vision Cecilia and I share.

Cecilia’s House was created with care because we believe a sober home can be peaceful, beautiful, structured, and deeply human. We want this to be a place where people feel respected, where expectations are clear, conversations are real, and growth happens naturally through everyday life together.

If you find yourself here, I hope you’ll feel welcomed from the moment you walk through the door.

🌱 Common Questions About Cecilia's House

💡 What makes Cecilia’s House different from other sober living homes?

Cecilia's House is more than a house — it’s a home that’s lived in, not managed from a distance.

Tom Mitchell and Cecilia Thelin created this to be a place where recovery feels real, relational, and steady.

Tom lives in the house with the men, sharing the same spaces and rhythms of daily life. His steady presence — born from years in long-term recovery and seven years of living alongside residents — gives the home a grounded calm that can’t be manufactured. Instead of managing from afar, Tom walks beside the guys, modeling what stability and honesty look like in everyday moments.

Cecilia brings her own steady warmth and perspective, shaped by years of supporting people in recovery and by being a mother of three. Residents often say that talking with her feels easy — like being heard without being fixed.

Together, they tend to Cecilia's House with care and intention, creating an environment that feels safe, real, and quietly transformative. Here, sobriety isn’t just about abstaining — it’s about growing into wholeness, one shared meal and conversation at a time.

💰 What is the cost and what does it include?

The monthly fee is currently $1,500 per resident. This includes your shared bedroom, all utilities (electric, water, internet), household supplies, and a fully furnished home with shared kitchen and living areas.

It also includes weekly house gatherings and practice groups.

Residents may also choose to participate in additional “Enriched Living” offerings for an added cost. These optional experiences may include wellness activities, outings, fitness support, cooking experiences, mindfulness practices, and other growth-oriented opportunities.

⏰ What is the daily/weekly schedule like?

🌅 Morning Quiet (7–9 a.m.)

Begin the day with space for meditation, reflection, or simply a calm start. Optional, but always available.

🌿 Daytime Flow

❤️ What happens if I relapse?

If a relapse happens, our first priority is your safety and support.

You’ll take a brief stay at a local detox or stabilization program so you can rest and regain balance.

Once you’re cleared, you’re welcome to return to Cecilia's House, and we simply call it a slip.

If a second slip occurs, we’ll talk together about a stronger reset—often a short residential program—to help you get back on solid ground.

After that, you’re always welcome back.

Relapse is never about shame—it’s a moment to receive care and begin again.

📅 Is there a minimum or maximum length of stay?

We ask for an initial three-month commitment so you have time to settle in and build a solid foundation for recovery.

This minimum also helps keep the house stable, so it doesn’t feel like people are constantly checking in and out.

After those first three months, you’re welcome to stay as long as Cecilia's House continues to support your growth and you remain engaged in the community.

Some residents stay a few months, others a year or more—there’s no set maximum as long as the fit feels right for everyone.
